The DSRC sponsors 6 seed projects that allow students to work on a variety of data science research projects ranging from machine learning in the browser to data next generation graph processing. On June 27, 2014, we had a summer meet-up where our students presented what they’ve been working on since February and also to get […]
Yesterday (June 26, 2014), the DSRC co-hosted with the Amsterdam Economic Board and the Kamer van Koophandel an event to connect DSRC researchers with various businesses interested data science. In particular, the event focused on speed-dating sessions on the themes of recommender systems, visual analytics and distributed processing. The event had over 40 attendees with […]
The DSRC is pleased to be a central part of the collaboration between the Amsterdam Academic Alliance (VU, UvA, HvA) and the newly started Institute of Advanced Metropolitan Solutions (AMS). The collaboration aims to help foster data science with respect to large city data. Full press release (in Dutch)
Marcel Worring (Associate Director of the DSRC) will give a talk ( June 17th) at the upcoming PIRE workshop here in Amsterdam. The workshop brings together young researchers and experts to address today’s challenges and to develop understanding in how best to exploit our growing wealth of data.
Max Welling will be co-presenting a tutorial at the International Conference on Machine Learning on Bayesian Posterior Inference in the Big Data Arena. ICML is the leading conference on machine learning. Abstract: Traditional algorithms for Bayesian posterior inference require processing the entire dataset in each iteration and are quickly getting obsoleted by the data deluge in […]
